There are many applications for DLI's SkyFiber® technology, including extending LAN and Campus data/voice networks, backing up fiber and microwave networks, as well as extending fiber for carrier service networks. The products are very portable and can restore network communications in disaster recovery situations.
Point-to-Point
The point-to-point connectivity is the most common application for WLC products. It is a simple solution for situations where fiber is not available, too expensive, impossible to be laid down in trenches across road, runways, rivers or requires major rerouting. It is also a simple solution for businesses who want to securely transfer masses of confidential data over relatively small distances and want to do it under their own private, dedicated communications channels.
Point-to-Multipoint
The patented point-to-multipoint connectivity is the most exciting application for WLC products. It is an elegant solution for communities, school districts, business parks, new housing developments and campuses that want to establish a private dedicated communication system for all its users in their network. It is also a perfect product and service solution for RBOC’s, CLEC’s, ISP’s, and others that want to offer bundled services. Point-to-Multipoint applications include villages, cities, business park communities, events, assemblies and congregations of population of any type who have need for wireless broadband communications for the coveted triple play of voice, data and video.
Disaster Recovery
Due to the size and ease of installation, DLI’s product offering is ideally suited for rapid deployment in disaster recovery situations. An entire system can fit inside a suitcase and be deployed in a matter of hours.
Cell Tower Connectivity
With the advent of 3G and other next generation cellular technology deployments, the demand for broadband voice and data communications is pushing the limits of existing cell tower connectivity infrastructure. DLI’s product can easily extend and expand the bandwidth capacity of the cellular network, as well as provide redundancy and load sharing by enabling the building of cost effective mesh networks. This capability would allow the cell network operators to create city-wide SkyFiber® networks in which they could deliver secure, fixed wireless broadband services beyond what they are capable of doing today.
Hybrid WiFi/WiMax WLC Networks
DLI’s technology complements WiFi or WiMax networks by acting as a fiber-like back haul connectivity between radio hotspots in the mesh. This hybrid design enables the WiFi or WiMax network to deliver greater mobile bandwidth to the end-user including triple play services. It also minimizes the need for an internet feed every 3 or 4 radios, thus lowering operating costs of the WiFi/WiMax networks significantly.
Laser To The Home Networks® (LTTH)
Due to DLI’s revolutionary product approach and small footprint, the product can be deployed as a wireless version of a Fiber To The Home (FTTH) at a fraction of the cost and deployment time of fiber. DLI already has the proof-of-concept product completed that is capable of delivering up to 1Gbps of bandwidth to each residence. The production version of this residential unit should be completed in 2008.
